General Lecture on Literature: “The Development of Japanese Literature and Its Application to Student Thesis Writing”

On August 27, 2022, Bachelor of Japanese Language and Culture, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University, held an online webinar with the theme “The Development of Japanese Literature and Its Application to Student Thesis Writing” by presenting Dr. Rima Devi, S.S, M.Si as Head of Study Program for S1 Japanese Literature, Faculty of Humanities, Andalas University as resource persons in this literary webinar. Dr. Rima Devi, S.S, M.Si is a graduate of the Doctoral program from the University of Indonesia. He is a literary expert who has produced many articles in the field of literature published in various journals both at home and abroad. Some of the pieces of training he participated in, one of which was the Japanese Studies Fellowship from The Japan Foundation, at Nagoya University Japan, in July – December 2017.

In this webinar, Dr. Rima delivered material on the development of Japanese literary works and their affiliations in writing student thesis. In this webinar, Dr. Rima stated that “Literature is human creativity that is imaginative, has aesthetic value, and is entertaining”. Dr. Rima also said that in thesis writing, students must pay attention to literary theories that develop along with the development of literary works, so that old literary theories should not be used anymore and it is better to try to use new theories in analyzing literary works that are used as research objects.

The public lecture with Dr. Rima went very smoothly and was attended by approximately 200 students and lecturers of the Japanese Language and Culture Study Program. The topics presented were also very insightful so many questions were asked by participants in the chat column, unfortunately, due to time constraints, not all of these questions could be answered.
