Enhancing the Academic Quality of Japanese Language and Culture Students through Himawari Guidance Classes

Over the past few months, the field of Himawari Research has been collaborating with the undergraduate program in Japanese Language and Culture to diligently improve the academic quality of its students. This has been accomplished through various activities, including the MEXT Scholarship Guidance Class, the Kanji Cup Guidance Class, and the Offline JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) Try Out.

The MEXT Scholarship Guidance Class consisted of 6 sessions, led by Dian Annisa Nur Ridha, S.S., M.A. Sensei, and Muhammad Alif Nur Ramadhan, with a total of 13 qualified participants. The class covered topics such as an introduction to MEXT scholarships under the Japanese Study category, tips and tricks for interviews, full Japanese language interview simulations, discussions on previously tested MEXT scholarship written exam questions, and other aspects related to the MEXT scholarship.

Additionally, a preparation class for the Kanji Cup competition in 2024 was conducted over a period of 3 months to equip Japanese Language and Culture students. This class, consisting of 6 sessions, was guided by Yahya Adhar Guswara and M. Reza Palavi Habibie. Participants were selected and chosen from the best 16 students from the 2021 and 2022 batches. The selected participants received training and materials covering basic Kanji introduction, Kanji reading and writing practice, problem-solving agility, and Kanji Cup competition simulations. During the final session, a final elimination round was held to select the top 8 participants who would represent the program in the Kanji Cup competition in 2024.

This year the JLPT Try Out was held offline. The try out was held for 2 days on May 27th and 28th, 2023. The Bunpou-Dokkai discussion class at each level made this year’s Try Out different from before. In this discussion class, participants are welcome to ask the discussant regarding questions in Bunpou-Dokkai that they find difficult, then the discussant will explain and discuss with the participants regarding the discussion of the question. The N3 level discussant was Nisia Nur Dwi Agusta S.Hum., M.Si sensei, the N4 level was Owen Sakkaa Rossy, and the N5 level was M. Reza Palavi Habibie.

The hope is that the multitude of activities that provide opportunities for students to excel will attract more interest from Japanese Language and Culture students and lead to even greater achievements.
