Undergraduate Students Majoring in Japanese Language and Culture Have Successfully Qualified for Scholarship and Internship Programs in Japan.

Diponegoro University Japanese Language and Culture Study Program is very active in providing information related to internship and scholarship programs to Japan. This time, several students have achieved achievements by successfully qualifying for the program. The first is a student named Dieke Marsha Angelica from the class of 2020 who successfully passed the internship vacancy to Japan. This is the result of cooperation between the Japanese Language and Culture Study Program and PT JIPA. Angelica, or commonly called Angel, revealed that one of her motivations for joining this program was because one of her idols had studied in Japan. During the selection process, Angel had prepared herself by compiling a neat CV and studying the questions that might be asked in the interview.

Then, the second is Salma Faadhillah, a 2020 student who successfully passed the Short Term Volunteer Exchange in Japan program from De Javato. This program involves volunteer activities such as teaching young children, organizing summer festivals, and so on. Salma has a strong motivation to join this program because she likes to learn new things, wants to improve her English and Japanese speaking skills, and wants to gain first-hand insight into life in Japan. In the beginning, Salma just tried to fill in the form based on the information provided by sensei, compiled a motivation letter, sent her CV, and attended the interview in Indonesian and English. Thanks to her determination and effort, Salma made it through the program.

The third is Zhafirah Raihannisa, a 2020 student who successfully passed the Kagoshima University Exchange Program Fall Semester from IO UNDIP. In this program, initially the students who register will undergo a selection stage by the UNDIP IO. Students who pass the selection will then send their files to Kagoshima University via email. Zhafirah has a strong motivation to apply for this program because she is very interested in learning the language and culture of other countries, especially Japan. “Joining this student exchange program is very exciting, because we can meet friends from various countries and share information about the culture of each country,” she said.

The last one was Dionisius Krisna Saputra, a 2019 student who successfully passed the Monbukagakusho U to U scholarship program to Kagoshima University. This is the first time the Japanese Language and Culture Study Program has received an invitation from Kagoshima University for this program, with the qualification requirement of passing JLPT N2. Kagoshima University decided to open this U to U invitation pathway after a BKJ student who had previously qualified, Muhammad Alif Nur Ramadhan from the class of 2018, and showed satisfactory achievements. However, in Dion’s batch, only he and Alissa were eligible, and Alissa had also successfully received the Monbukagakusho scholarship the previous year. Therefore, Dion was the only student in his batch who was eligible. Without wasting this opportunity, Dion applied and successfully passed.

Previously, Dion had also tried for the Monbukagakusho scholarship since the 3rd or 4th semester, unfortunately having tried three times without success. “So, when I got the offer from sensei, I was very grateful and the timing of the opportunity was perfect. I successfully passed JLPT N2 in December, and in February there was an offer from Kagoshima,” she said. The selection stage of this program involves an internal file selection by Kagoshima. If you pass the internal selection stage, the campus there will submit the name of the student to Monbukagakusho.

The hope of the students of the Japanese Language and Culture Study Program (BKJ) who successfully qualify for the above programs is that they can broaden their horizons, make new friendships, and learn not only in terms of communication and local culture, but also in terms of independence and discovery of new things in Japan. They also hope to prove that they are worthy representatives of these programs and proudly maintain the good name of BKJ in Japan.

In addition, for colleagues at BKJ who wish to join an internship or scholarship program to Japan, they are expected to start preparing their files early. Dion also gave a special message, namely to never stop learning Japanese and not to only target to achieve the BKJ minimum standard, namely JLPT level N3. It is better to strive to improve Japanese language skills to the N2 level, as this will open up greater opportunities for various program offers. Keep trying to improve your Japanese language skills. Hopefully the success of these students in various programs to Japan can be an inspiration for their friends at BKJ, encouraging them to try new things and achieve achievements directly in Japan.
