Fostering Knowledge Through LKMMPD-BKJ Activities

One of the initial stages in the student leadership development process is the LKMMPD activity, which stands for Latihan Keterampilan Manajemen Mahasiswa Pra Dasar, or in English, Pre-Basic Student Management Skills Training. The LKMMPD-BKJ program is an annual program organized by the K&PSDM Division of Himawari. This activity consists of three phases: pre-event, D-day, and post-event or closing. The pre-event involves tasks such as reading assigned books and creating twibbons. The D-day is divided into two days, with activities including four presentations from speakers and group discussions. The final phase, post-event or closing, serves as a concluding activity, featuring performances by new student talents, mind map assignments, announcement of participants, and recognition of the best groups.

The first day of LKMMPD-BKJ was held on September 9, 2023 at 09.00 WIB at the Multipurpose Hall Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences. The first day of the event was immediately filled by two competent speakers, Jordan Vegard and Hasna Widyaningrum, who excelled in their respective fields. Jordan’s presentation focused on “Self-Potential Analysis, Self-Motivation, and Time Management.” During this session, speaker discussed various aspects, such as self-potential classifications, the functions and aspects of self-motivation, and the importance of time management. Jordan’s presentation was highly interactive, as he posed questions to the new students throughout his talk. Following the presentation, to test and apply the newly acquired knowledge, the new students were given an individual case study and asked to brainstorm solutions for five minutes. During this session, the new students actively participated, and many of them volunteered to present their solutions. The question-and-answer session was equally engaging, with students asking questions related to the material and their personal situations.

The second presentation was delivered by Hasna Widyaningrum, covering “Fundamentals of Communication in Public Speaking.” In this session, Hasna explained the concept of communication, its types, communication barriers, and other topics related to public speaking. After the presentation, the new students had 15 minutes for a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) with their group members. Many group representatives actively volunteered to present the outcomes of their discussions. The Q&A session also proceeded smoothly with numerous questions from the new students. The hope was that the activities on the first day of LKMMPD-BKJ would expand their knowledge, nurture critical thinking, and enhance teamwork skills.

The second day of LKMMPD-BKJ 2023 was held exactly one day after the first day, on September 10, 2023. As before, the event also started at 09.00 WIB and was held at the Multipurpose Hall Building, Faculty of Cultural Sciences. The first material was presented by Vava Ariella Aufa Azura, as the Head of Research and Science, BEM Faculty of Cultural Sciences. Vava explained in detail and skillfully about, “What is literacy”, “How to improve literacy”, What is being critical”, and “The benefits of being critical”. During the first material session, the 2023 students seemed enthusiastic to ask and answer every simple questions that asked by speaker. Even when the debate session was opened, which was also part of Vava’s material presentation, 2023 students looked excited and not embarrassed to try to debate in front of their friends. This short debate session was divided into three sessions and was conducted by two people with each child being the pro and con side of a theme.

Next, the event was filled with the second material about organization and presented by Lady Dian Islamy who is also the Head of the Association or Kaichou Himawari in 2022.  Lady  gave some short questions about the organization and then in her presentation,  Lady explained about “What is an organization”, “The difference between Himawari administrators and members”, and “Problems encountered during the organization’s journey”. This material session was closed with a focus group discussion or FGD with the theme of problems while running the organization.

The 2023 LKMM-PD Japanese Language and Culture event went well and enthusiastically. Although the main event was only held for two days, the new students still followed the event very well. Hopefully in the future, this LKMM-PD event can have a positive influence and learning for every new student of 2023.
