The Japan Foundation once again held a national kanji competition, Kanji Cup. Kanji Cup is a national kanji competition with shokyuu (beginner level) and chukyuu (intermediate level) levels that is routinely held every year. This year was the 20th time the Kanji Cup was held. The 20th Kanji Cup was held at Surabaya State University (UNESA), on Saturday (3/2/2024).
This year’s Kanji Cup was attended by participants from various regions. Diponegoro University’s S-1 Japanese Language and Culture study programme also took part by sending 8 students as delegates to compete in the 20th Kanji Cup at the shokyuu level on Saturday, 3 February 2024.
The eight delegates included Mochamad Bintang Putra Eryano (BKJ class of 2021), Asbi Suar Fandi (BKJ class of 2022), Cinta Ryan Amanda (BKJ class of 2022), Aprilia Putri Andini (BKJ class of 2022), Uga Laskar Perwira Utama (BKJ class of 2021), Muhammad Febryan Maulana (BKJ class of 2021), Qurrotul Ainiyah (BKJ class of 2021), Muhammad Ari Surya Chandra (BKJ class of 2022).
The preparation of the 8 students who became delegates at the Kanji Cup this time had been prepared since April 2023 through the Kanji Cup guidance class held by the Research Division of HMPS S-1 Japanese Language and Culture Diponegoro University, Himawari. The delegates also received direct guidance from Ayyub Sensei and Budi Sensei.
The great preparation paid off. In the 20th Kanji Cup, two of the eight delegates from the Diponegoro University Japanese Language and Culture Study Programme won. Cinta Ryan Amanda from BKJ class 2022 won 2nd place and Qurrotul Ainiyah from BKJ class 2021 won 3rd place finalist.
