On Wednesday, February 21, 2024, a fascinating lecture on “Business Manners, Tips and Tricks for Working in Japan” was held at the Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University. The lecture was attended by about fifty students from the Japanese Language and Culture Program, Faculty of Humanities, Diponegoro University.
The distinguished speaker, Yoshihiro Nabeshima sensei from Convi Co. Ltd, a prominent recruitment company in Japan, highlighted various aspects critical to navigating the Japanese business landscape. Among the highlights of Nabeshima sensei’s presentation were the importance of punctuality and “hourensou” (reporting, communicating, and consulting), which are integral parts of Japanese business culture.
The lecture proceeded smoothly, with the students’ eager participation evidenced by the multitude of questions posed to Nabeshima Sensei. This enthusiasm underscored the students’ keen interest in gaining insight into the nuances of Japanese business practices. The overarching goal of the lecture was to instill in the students the understanding that in addition to honing hard skills, cultivating soft skills such as mastery of “hourensou” and adherence to punctuality norms are equally vital to success in the professional arena. Through this engagement, students were encouraged to appreciate the holistic approach required to effectively navigate cross-cultural business environments.
